PROBLEM

Energy users often aspire to sustainability, yet unclear of their own role in the energy cycle of demand & supply. This is the result of the wide information gap between the energy end-user and the energy resource supplier that ensues.

INTERVENTION

I investigated this issue by re-defining the traditional oil lamp and introducing an intervention in an energy source that is prevalent in everyday life: the lamp. Oil (for a) lamp is an interactive light source that seeks to :

• Re-introduce the evidence of consumption as in the original oil lamp.
• Provide a visual & tangible reminder of energy consumption, along with a trigger for the user to intervene and reset the consumption cycle.
• Expose the audience to the raw resource and inform about its origin.
• Encapsulate all the above into an aesthetic light source that can provide room lighting.
