PROBLEM

Commission by Selfridges and Makerversity to host our proposed workshops on Interactive Objects, during the "Future of Work" event, May - June 2015 in store.
Open audience and no prior experience required.

Can I enhance interaction & collaboration in the workplace with responsive physical objects?
As remote digital communication becomes the primary means of collaboration in the flexible & international workspace we need to consider what are we missing out from being face-to-face in the same room?

INTERVENTION

  • Develop innovative interfaces to create sensory channels of communication.
  • Create new haptic, audio, olfactory & visual interfaces that allow us to take in previously unseen information about our caller's environment & situation.
  • Expand the capacity of our sensory perception in remote digital communication.
  • Contextualise the role & impact of the Internet of Things.
  • Invite participants to build their own responsive "lamp"  that integrates these interfaces in modular building blocks.
  • Allow the audience to experiment how could remote collaboration change by adding new channels of communication through smell, touch, sound and light.
  • Employ interaction design as an educational tool to promote the relevance and accessibility of dynamic objects through plug and play electronics.
